1. No I don’t think there should be a test to screen marriages. I don’t think that there is an equation to determine if people can make a marriage work. Even if a marriage is “doomed” according to what the test might say, there is no reason why the couple can make things work but making changes in their lives. I think if there was some sort of screening test that more marriages would end because people would feel like giving up early on or maybe people who were told their marriage would succeed wouldn’t try as hard. One phrase to explain why I don’t think screening should occur? Self-fulfilling prophecy. 2. This article dispels many typical beliefs. The researchers believe that their study disproves the idea that two people must be compatible, affairs are a result of problems inside the marriage and will be the cause of the marriage ending, and volatile marriages are less likely to succeed than peaceful ones. Markman states that it isn’t love and commitment that is need, rather it is effective communication skills. 3. I feel like this might be an accurate statement. Often people don’t recognize the little things that people do for each other than can build a relationship up. The often don’t take note of the positive comments and just let them go in one ear and out the other. Negative comments however always heard. One little thing that a person does to intentionally make their partner mad is always recognized. This is how one zinger can counteract 20 positive acts of kindness. 4. I think there is a possibility that this could occur in the positive aspect of a marriage. I think if something positive occurs after a particular trigger that a person maybe become expectant of the positive outcome. I do believe flooding liek this can occur, however I think that id dies away eventually. I think in early stages of a relationship people become blind by their newfound romance. Negative things people do are ignored and attributed to something positive. Sometimes this lasts for a longer period of time. Take for example people in abusive relationships. Partners see their partner as still being positive, they just attribute the abuse to something else in the relationship.
