1. I think Buss’ theory causes controversy because he tells men to pass their seed along to as many women as possible while women look for providers to take care of their children. I think this is controversial one just because I don’t think many women want to read that is what men are supposed to want to do based off this theory. Plus there are many women today who don’t think that should be the women’s job and that all men have to do is spread their seed. Many women don’t want to believe that they have to look for men to be the provider for their children, nowadays women can take care of their children too. 2. In college everyone is told to experiment and get the college experience. A lot of times men are told to be players whereas girls are looked down upon if they do so. This is pretty similar to the evolutionary hypothesis. Men get to run around and have sex with all the girls they want, but women aren’t supposed to do that. I can understand why it would be bad for women to run around and have sex with a bunch of guys because Buss says that women have to protect themselves because they’re going to be committing to nine months of pregnancy. This is why women are picker in general when it comes to men. However, I don’t think women should be looked down upon if they act in the way a man does and they have sex with a bunch of guys. It’s just not fair to think that way. 3. I like that although Derry takes Buss’ theory into consideration, he adds to it. He says that not only should men want to spread their seed as much as possible but they should also want to teach their offspring how to survive and get their genes into the next generation. By doing this it is continuing the genes of the original male so it only makes sense for him to want to do this. 4. I liked Derry’s point of view the best because I think males also consider that they will have to invest time into offspring not just to provide for it but to teach it as well. Maybe this eventually slows men down from wanted to reproduce because they know they won’t be able to spend all that time with all the offspring so they stop at some point. 5. From the evolutionary theory, women are shorter than men so they can draw in larger males that are more likely to protect them and take care of their children. Taller males are more likely to be healthy and strong so they are more likely to be able to protect you. A larger male that is looking for a mate can find a smaller woman to provide shelter and protection for while her womb is for his seed.
