1. I don’t think there should be a test to screen marriages. I think that I’ve seen many a weird couple last a really long time so you never know, even if tests say they can be really accurate. Besides, if someone takes a test to see how compatible they are and how likely the relationship is to last, they might be influenced by the answer they get. Maybe they wouldn’t have broken up as quickly if they weren’t told they weren’t compatible. Maybe some couples only last because they think they’re supposed to. 2. Some of the beliefs challenged were that incompatible couples cannot have a successful marriage, extramarital affairs are the result of problems in the marriage and will likely end the marriage, and volatile marriages are less likely to survive than more peaceful unions. 3. Maybe it is because positive acts seem more controlled than ‘zingers’. Many conflicts escalate because people have the inability to stop the conflict from doing so. Also, people seem to remember bad things more often then they remember good things. I have noticed that I can still remember mean things that people have said to me from when I was little but it is hard for me to remember all the times when someone may have done something good for me. 4. I think it is possible for someone to become so full of good emotions with their spouse that they don’t see bad things their spouse is doing to them. Maybe people who become flooded with good thoughts are able to remember good things more than the bad things and they are capable of blocking out the bad things. I think situations like thins allow abuse to occur though. A man may be abusing a woman and because she doesn’t allow herself to see the bad things and she only focuses on the good things, she doesn’t realize how bad she is being treated.
