1.) Personally, the theory can be very offensive especially in the American culture because people are meant to save themselves for marriage and to be faithful. The theory that Buss states though seems more animalistic to just “spread your seed” from woman to woman so that your genes are passed on. Many people probably find that topic to be very sensitive and so Buss stating men should work to spread their seed as much as possible, while women look for providers, easily causes controversy. 2.) Throughout college, the idea isn’t exactly to spread your seed so much as to spread yourself around as much as possible, well at least for males it is. Therefore, similar to the evolutionary hypothesis, you have males running around campuses trying to have sex as much as possible with whomever they can. I have observed this behavior a lot in friends and myself. It is human nature to think that way, but females also seem to be more protective and sheltered away from just letting any male into their life, especially their sex life. Just like Buss states with women though, they have to protect themselves because they are the ones committing nine months to a pregnancy. These are just small things which are easy to note in college, but in general females seem to be much pickier than males when it comes to relationships dealing with attractive individuals because females tend to go for the nicer guys while males tend to go for the prettiest girl possible. 3.) Derry does consider the fact that it is not just to spread your seed but also to teach your offspring better ways to live. Not only does spreading seed pass genes on, but a male shouldn’t just run off because he has to make sure his seed passes on by teaching the survival tactics needed to survive. Therefore, males should also consider the fact that if they are spreading the seed, they should also teach their offspring the tricks of the trade so that their offspring will be able to survive as well. 4.) I think Derry made some good points because it is true to not just spread ones seed and forget about it. One should take into account how their son or daughter is going to survive after they are born. Not all females can take full care of their child or teach them skills they do not know because only males knew how to do so. Derry also pointed out that males must make it a responsibility to care enough for their offspring so that future generations can come. This argument is nice to agree with because it adds onto the evolutionary theory formed by Buss. 5.) Women are shorter than men from an evolutionary standpoint are because being shorter, women then draw in larger males who can protect them and create children with them. Therefore, when a male is larger and looking for a mate, he can find a smaller woman and be able to provide the shelter and protection needed for her, while she provides the womb to pass his seed on.
