I believe that a screening to assess the success of marriages would possibly make a small decrease in the number of divorces, but overall it would not make an extreme difference. I believe that the screening may in general decrease the number of people who actually get married because I think that it would make people think about how compatible individuals really were. However, I think that within the course of a relationship, people change. It is these changes that may be the reason individuals get divorced so a screening would not be able to foresee such events. 2. The ideas that incompatible couples have successful marriages, extramarital affairs cause problems that result in problems in marriage, and volatile marriages are less likely to survive than peaceful unions were all proven to be wrong within the context of the article. 3. Markman’s one zinger could refer to the concept of conflict within a relationship. One of the main things that can hurt a relationship is hurling insults at one another in a relationship. This along with the other intense aspects of conflict could be the one “zinger” that results in a loss of a relationship. No matter how many positive acts are in a relationship, one incident could deteriorate a relationship to a point that it is no longer fixable. This could be referred to as the sudden death by Duck. 4. I do not believe that there can be too much positive in a relationship. However, I do feel that some couples may reach a point where they refuse to see the negatives in light of the positives. I think that this is most often seen in abusive relationships. Even though there are so many negative things within an abusive relationship, those in such relations believe that the positives override the negatives. They refuse to see what really happens in a relationship and live believing that the love they have is worth the pain. However, this is not the overflow of positives. It is more accurate in this light to say that there may be psychological issues that lead to the naivety of negatives more than any physiological response.
