This article discussed if pornographic images caused violence against women. This research suggested “certain forms of pornography that is aggressive in nature- can lead to increases in aggressive-sexual fantasies, greater acceptance of interpersonal violence against women, altered perceptions of rape, and aggressive behavior directed against women.” Aggressive pornography was described as having scenes that raped, mutilated, or seemed to have negative attitudes or behaviors. They looked at non-aggressive pornography and aggressive pornography and the relationship between increasing aggression. They also viewed if prior aggressive situations before viewing aggressive or non-aggressive pornography affected aggression and if the sex of the aggressor affected feelings of aggression experienced after watching the scenes. They concluded that if an individual has long term attitudes about rape and violence towards women than this violence can be reinforced by scenes and images that uses sexual aggression against women. The victims role and response to sexual aggression can also affect the level of aggression experienced. 1. This research primarily only looked at aggression that resulted after males watched aggressive or non-aggressive pornographic images.
