This study examined the idea that genetic similarity plays a role in human relationships. Specifically, this study looked at genetic similarity between male friends. Previous research has looked at married couples and sexually interacting partners. The participants of this study were tested on similarity in social attitude, personality, and anthropometric measures. In addition, blood samples were taken and similarity was estimated and examined for 10 blood loci using 7 polymorphic marker systems across 6 chromosomes. The results found that friends were more genetically similar to each other than the random pairs. Similarity was marked most on the more genetically influenced items in the personality and attitudinal sets. However, the same was not true for the anthropometric assessments. These findings are in line with the previous research and provide support that human relationships are at least partly influenced by genetic similarity.
