It is often assumed that ethnic groups have different ideas for judging attractiveness. It is thought that culture can also influence what is determined as attractive. According to this article attractiveness can be placed into four categories, neonate or baby-like features, sexual maturity features, expressive or emotional features, and grooming. This article also used the Multiple Fitness model of social perception to make hypotheses for these studies. This model looks at relationships between the target’s face and body features, the perceiver’s needs and characteristics, the perceiver’s judgement of the target’s attractiveness and the target’s suitability for biological, social, and personal challenges. In this article it looked at three studies that had participants rate the attractiveness of pictures of Asian, Hispanic, black, and white women in with different combinations and participants. Within all of the studies there was many similarities found between the idea of beauty between Asian, Hispanic, and white participants. Black and white participants were also very similar in rating attractiveness of black women. There were however differences found also within these studies, such as Asian judges preferring women with lower cheekbones and wider cheeks unlike white participants. These studies did find similarities between ethnic beauty standards and differences.
