I was surprised that positive illusions were supposed to be good for a relationship. I think of how they can hurt a relationship, rather than help it. Positive illusions may blind you to some serious faults in your partner, faults that can hurt you and others involved. Like Amy said, abusive situations are a good example. Another example would be if one partner had a substance abuse problem, and because of the other's positive illusions, it gets to the point where it is so bad it can rip the relationship apart. Such was the case with my parents. My mom believed my dad had so much potential, that she overlooked important problems that really came to a head later, like his alcoholism. This is why I tend to think positive illusions are dangerous because in hindsight there were a lot of red flags before they got married. I am afraid of overlooking things like she did.
